I've not had a cold night with the quilts yet, the UQ with the down summer top quilt (which I think I added 50g of overfill to) have kept me toasty despite sleeping in not much more than boxers,t-shirt and fresh socks. I went for overfill on both quilts as I dont like to layer up to sleep in, may not be the conventional way of doing it but it works for me and the underquilt protector adds a couple of degrees extra as well.

#18This is my atempt at a proper box baffle down underquilt it cost me around £40 to make. I had a sewing machien anyway and used some bedsheets and down from an old duvet. The quilt is supsended using shotcord and has chanels to gater the ends. It measures 2m long by 1.4m wide i will be making another one out of nylon in a few weeks to se the difference in weight. This quilt has kept me warm in -1 degrees so far but i only made it a week ago and it has not been that cold yet

#20Hi guys. I spent first night in hammock a couple of nights ago, used my hennessey supershelter. For a variety of reasons I froze. I think I will make a post on this. I did put up a post on the great British bushcraft page. Anyway, I am thinking to but the snugpak underblanket but I'm wondering, as I have the supershelter does anyone have any ideas of how or if I could attach a sleeping bag into it ? Not sure if would be possible and as I'm new and thick on the subject no diy knowledge lol. Any tips would be appreciated.

Not sure fella. What else did you have in your set up that night?
Might be best to sell it on. That will save you weight as well on carrying the shelter and a sleeping bag to put in it. As they're hard to source over here there will be no shortage of takers I'm sure. Couple on Facebook were looking.

I think it was on the Bushcraft Tradepost UK page.

#22I was okay with my DD Hammocks underblanket and really loved it. Then I bought a Hammock Gear Incubator 20°F.
Yes, the underblanket is worth the (little) money, but the about three times more expensive Incubator is from a completely different league. It's like a Mini compared to a Porsche.

No didn't use a pad as thought shelter would be enough. But I also made quite a few mistakes. Wore too many clothes and had them on all day in damp, I left one side of tarp open, didn't eat anything but a sandwich, sleeping bag only rated to -2 which prob optimistic. I've got an UQ now though and learnt a valuable lesson mate. I have a good benchmark now so happy it went bad in some ways.

#25Does anyone know the approximate compressed pack size of the UKHammocks underquilt (summer or 3 seasons) ?
Happy with the performance of my current snugpak one, but at 1.3kg versus about 0.6kg, and the pack size being quite large at 23cm x 23cm I think (may have to check properly later), it's pretty big and heavy in the rucksack.
Did me fine in Dartmoor last week at around -1c but small and light it's not !
Cheers, Paul

#27Thanks Steve, guessing that it might be around two thirds of the volume of the snugpak or thereabouts, maybe a bit less. I emailed Matt at UKH and he reckoned the three season was about 3 litres volume, but as I don't know the volume of the snugpak or how to measure it it's all still a bit vague
Might think about it again before next winter as it'll soon be spring/summer again !
Cheers, Paul
