Thread has gone sideways a little. not sure if you are going to get much MORE of answer to your question though mate.....they are the most comfortable way to insulate a hammock for most people.

Has anyone who's slept in a quality down UQ ever gone back to mats full time?

I only use mats with gritted teeth these days, mostly as I'll be loaning out my UQ or in very mixed terrain where sleeping on the ground is inevitable

I keep meaning to go pick a zlite pad for a trip later in the year but always think of something I'd rather do, such as tax return or plucking the hair from my scrotum. And testing it seems like an ordeal I could do without ☺

        doubt it

if its a mixed trip i'd rather carry an extra mat, a Shorty ccf pad don't weigh much

Just got hold of one of the new DD Hammocks shaped mats.

Tough as boots and probably the mat I'll use on mixed trips

Well worth a look and a great price - £19

          Currently out of stock though...

Agreed, though what I'd do depends largely on temperature and distance. I recently used a coffin shaped evazote pad as well as my UQ and it wasn't too bad.

It looks like the Vango or the ones you get mountain warehouse that DD have rebadged.

Cheap, but heavy. That'll be a DD!
But there's a place for that.

I can never understand it when companies say their inflatable mats are lightweight. What are they comparing it to..CCF pad? Which is what it is supposed to replace

Good to see you do your own stunts☺
It would be interesting to see if it would last the night with all the pressure. But in an emergency it's better than nothing.
                    Good effort 👍
