    Hi all ground dwellers.

    Hi all,
This site looks very new. Feels good to be one of the early birds. I'm on here cause I'm about to embark on an epic journey of hitchhiking and wildcamping (in between couch surfing) my way across the planet so I'll be seeking advice here and there. I'm a ground dweller predominantly and have just purchaced a RAB Ridge Master Bivy which I think looks great. I love hammocks and have been using one for over 15 years but not to travel in. I may consider using on for the Europe part of my journey but I have to admit the Bivy may just be the right choice for me. It's like a high tech aussie swag. It'll be great to get to know more British campers and maybe head out into the woods sometimes too.

I saw your picture of the ridge master and it looks an excellent piece of kit.

I'm starting in Europe (obviously) and taking my time there to get used to that lifestyle. Then I want to head south, still taking my time so maybe hang around Greece, Italy or there abouts. After that, head through Turkey, Iran then through the 'Stans' and into Mongolia then South. I don't have a time limit. I also don't mind if I find it's not my thing either but the idea is to just step into the unknown. 😳

some form of tarp would be handy to be used with this, for kit, cooking and relaxing wet or for shade

As Tigger has said a tarp would be a handy also couple it with a pair of trekking poles and some cordage (paracord) and you can set it up almost anywhere.

Yeah I've been beginning to think of a tarp design. I'm looking at using an Optimus stove so the heat won't be too much and the tarp can be low and come over the top of the bivy and maybe down the side to cut out wind from two sides. Any input and ideas are appreciated. I'll be wanting convenience in both weight and setting up.

Re stoves, I've a solo stove and pot with mets burner might be worth you considering? Multi fuel with very little in the way of parts to go wrong and pretty compact? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Solo-Stove-B...rds=Solo+stove

I looked at that Si and its a real contender to the Optimus Stove. The free fuel thing is pretty good. Plus minimal parts. I really need to get out camping this summer with other people and see this stuff in action.
