#2Had around 150 nights in bell tents during my national service year in the Norwegian army. Most of them during winter in the arctic part of my little, frozen country. Anything in particular you want to know?

#4How many you could get into one depends on how big the tent is of course. The Norwegian army version slept 8-10 squaddies with full kit and room to spare. Well, with 10 lads inside it became rather intimate, lol.
Anyway with a good wood stove it gets really nice and warm inside. And the stove was glowing hot. We used to sleep fanned out with our feet towards the stove, so we built a small wall of branches to protect our sleeping bags from the heat, if we accidently slipped towrards the stove at night.
In winter we laid down a thick floor of spruce branches to insulate us from the snow if allowed. We slept on CCF pads, with reindeer pelts on top. Nice soft and warm :-)
Anyway, Paul Kirtley has a good article on hot tenting. And as far as I can see he does things excactly how we did it in the Norwegian army.

#6Sorry, I missed this thread.
I've had a 4m bell tent for about 6 years. You wouldn't get eight people with gear in it but I reckon you be able to in a 5m one at a push.
I love it when the weather stays good. As there's only three of us in ours and we don't have a stove it does get chilly but with eight bodies I reckon it would be much warmer.
its fine in the wind; there are draughts but with your kit placed in the windward side you can block the worst of it.
