Help me get this right please

What am I not doing right?

Following on from my posts on my new hammock, thought I'd better create a new topic as its now becoming me needing advice rather than a review of the new gear haha

Ok having a quick mess on again with attaching this ridgeline while th wife's on the laptop...
Here's the end with the small loop, which I've just passed through itself from one end

And here's the other end. I'm not so happy that I understand how to connect this end if I'm honest. For now I've just placed the loop over the suspension but this doesn't seem right to me?

Here's the sag with the length of the ridgeline at 80.6%

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I feel like I'm being slightly squeezed at the shoulders.

Nothing wrong with what you are doing, just need to dial in the length of your ridgeline, until you are happy with it.
Shoulder squeeze often happens when the hammock is stretched tighter than you like it, shortening the ridgeline would give you more sag.

The golden number that people shoot for is 30° for the suspension/sag, but that is only a starting point.
It will be a useful exercise take a tape measure and measure your hammock, to the points where you attached the SRL.
Then take that measurement and multiply it by 0.83, use the result as a starting point.

I don't understand what this is showing,

what's the raggeddy ends on that dyneema?

And when you've got that dialled in, it'll be time to look at that nasty paracord suspension.
That won't help getting a consisant hang, it stretches to bejazus, so what feels like a nice hang, sags to a weird one over the night.

Gadget, that is the adjustable loop of the whoopie, the tails you can see is just an offcut that is passed through and overhand knotted to the main line to mark the 83% length for reference

nerocircus, once you do find your sweet spot you could move the marker to suit if needed, in the video I linked to you see Shug puts a prussic knot mod over and around the open loop to close it off

Ahh, OK. definitely worth actually measuring that hammock, I see the size he gave you, was just from the website (rarely a reliable source in my experience).

Measure your hammock length to where the ridge line will be attached.
Find 80% of that length then adjust the Whoopie to that length. Test for comfort then adjust whoopie larger or smaller until it feels okay. If it's squeezing your shoulders try shortening whoopie first to make more sag.
What is the suspension line/end loop made from. If it's paracord or similar it will stretch so swap it for Amsteel loops.
Thread the r/l whoopie end loop on to the hammock end loop before larks footing the hammock loop to stop the r/l sliding up or off the line. Do the same with the adjustable side also.

Thanks all - will definitely measure the hammock - I rather naively took it as gospel that the website would be correct, so I will double check this. I'm starting to wonder if it is different though, as when I tried with the SRL in the 83% position as per marker, it definitely wasn't right, and I'm trying to remember now which way, but I think it was overly slack (as in, not doing anything but getting in my way). Will check this out though.

Interesting. Glad you mentioned this - I've just measured with hammock laid out on floor and it comes in at 287cm (rather than the advertised 320!)!
                That's a fair old difference!

Should I still be able to get a super comfortable lay in here at 6'4? And would this extra (missing?!) foot or so make all the difference to my comfort?

That's pretty wee for a big galah like you.
                  I'm only 5'10" and love my 11 footer (3.353m).
So, 287 x 0.83 = 239cm, try that for your SRL. But I reckon you find that hammock a bit restrictive for you.

You might just get that from the whoopie, I think I gave it 150mm either side of the 'desired' length

I'd make an enquiry with the company about the sizing issue. As another tall person I wouldn't be happy with that as sometimes just a few centimetres can make the difference between something being right or wrong in terms of fit especially when you are at the cusp

I may just do that, but just to be sure I'm not doing something stupid when measuring , lying out on floor and measuring from ends of fabric is ok right? Or is there something to do with measuring the fabric on its curve while hanging? Does that even make sense...I know what I mean.

Meadows - what hammock and size do you use? And how tall are you?
