    DIY assymetrical hammock

    Hi
Quick DIY hammock with asymmetrical pattern. Basically I cut from standard piece of rip-stop two triangles leaving me with parallelogram as on the picture. I'm short guy 170cm and it works for me just right. Rest is standard. Rolled hem on longer edges, narrow channel on shorter. Gathered with two pieces of 4mm nylon rope, which are tied and used as attachment points for ridgeline (see pic). Standard whoopie slings from 7/64 Amsteel feed through loops at the end and larks head below gathering. Two pieces of shock cord, both sides, inside rolled hem from gathering to attachment points (the webbing sewn to the sides). Attachment points added to keep the excess of fabric off the face. That's about it. Rest of the bits later (underquilt, tarp, bugnet).
    Cheers

Looks good fella, well done. How is it comfort wise?

Comfort exactly the same as with normal gathered hammock IMHO. The idea behind this was to cut "unnecessary" piece of fabric, to make easier to fit bug net zipper. Normally you've got on one side plenty of wrinkles. Anyway that was a while ago and I didn't had a chance to fit zipper (nor go somewhere where it will be necessary ;-)). Anyway I got another idea for bug net and will do it completely different way, of course I'll share it.

Nice work there, I'm also interested in how it feels. I tried the parallelogram hammock a good while ago and can't say a felt much difference, that said I believe there's potential as all fabric reacts differently on the bias

Originally that was standard hammock. I just cut the triangles later feels exactly the same. However there's only one way to sleep now ;-) (actually two ways).

I found that cutting the ends at an angle like that didn't make too much difference, nor did adding a footbox. However the combo of the two did. Not a massive difference in comfort but it meant I could get by with a much shorter hammock. I didn't have a shorter tarp to go with it though so I ended up chopping it up.

Great for weight weenies ;-). Not too much difference in terms of comfort. Yes is slightly shorter.
