3.9m x 3m Tarp with ridgeline loops and side tie-outs?

    Hola,

Before I go down the custom made route (don't own a sewing machine and even if I did it would be too dangerous in my hands!) Does anyone know a manufacturer that produces a tarp 3m x 3.9m with ridgeline loops, side ties outs, velcro closing doors and guy-line pockets at each corner?

My 'go-to' tarp at the moment is the TW Sargasso, which is great, but could be improved by being wider and having ridgeline loops and side tie-outs.

I expect that no one makes such an 'off the shelf' item, so is anyone willing to take on the job if something suitable cannot be sourced?

    Many Thanks

    Steve

The alpkit rig21 is close to what you are after, except for the velcro doors and guyline pockets. Because of the length it is easy enough to cross the ends over as doors if you want, and I guess you could hand sew some velcro if wanted but not really necessary perhaps ?

I cannot think of having seen something like that anywhere. I reckon Scott would be your best bet, as sunndog said.

I personally wouldn't go for a tarp that is 3.9m long again (I speak as an owner of a Sargasso).
With a 11 foot hammock you get 49cm overlap at each end, which initially sounds good. But, it also means that it will not pitch low to you hammock, the lowest it will go is 30cm above you hammock ridgeline (if you hang at an angle of 30 degrees). And that means you get a foot less coverage at the sides.

A 3.5m ridgeline will still give you 30cm at each end, but will pitch down to 17cm (6") above your ridgeline.
Velcro ends are not necessary, if the door overlap is longer, the extra silnylon (or poly) is lighter than the velcro.

Yep I can make you something along those lines if your search doesn't result in anything.

I've added the mesh corner pockets to few tarps for customers, I however found they knotted up the cords more, especially if there's an elasticated section of the line for taughter pitches. I like a simple loop of elastic loop.

I agree with gadget in that it's going to be too long for an easy pitch. Doable though with a structural ridgeline and running the hammock suspension below 20° and it's always nice to camp under a huge tarp, makes for a home away from home rather than a cramped floaty tent

I get on well with the long alpkit 21, love the extra length and that it gives plenty of coverage and an admin area in wet weather. Not noticed any issues or challenges getting it set up to be honest, although you do obviously have to choose trees a bit further apart To be fair, I don't usually like to have the tarp too low to the hammock ridge line, as I am quite tall and prefer some head room for moving around, likewise tend not to have the sides too low so I have room to move and better visibility. In poorer weather I do drop it all down and keeps the rain off fine, and the underblanket cuts down on any wind that gets under.
