It's a pretty trick and possibly very messy job but doable, quilts are king IMHO. I'd suggest marking out the shape of the quilt and sewing two parallel lines of stitching 1cm apart, then cut between to separate. Then just put bias binding over the edges (I made my bias attachment from a coke can)
Never tried it...........................Chubbs done a thread a while ago (if you've not already seen it) about converting a sleeping bag but was a synthetic fill I believe, but it may contain some good tips about how to go about marking and cutting the bag.
You would probably find it easier using pre-folded bias tape for that. Folders are ok if you want to use the same material as you've made something out of but for the time it takes to set up and then cutting the fabric to go through it to the right thickness you may as well just feed pre folded through by hand.
I can probably spare a few meters if you want to give it a go Meadows.
If you look in the photo the bias binding is the black strip covering the rough Fabirc edge where it attaches to the zipper.
Ah I wasn't too clear... Its basically this but I made a few to various sizes and taped them to my sewing machine. Much easier to use that by hand and can follow curves pretty well. I'm not a massive fan of finishing with grosgrain, bias tape is nicer but I still prefer a proper seam.
