    DD superlight straps

Hi all, just had a strange one at the weekend, I have slept in my DD superlight hammock a few times without the webbing straps, no problem. On Saturday I set up using the webbing as well, I woke up on Sunday morning with my bum touching the floor ? When I got out of the hammock nothing moved, looking at the straps around the trees they were in the same position as they had been tied.

So.................where did the slack come from ? has anyone had similar problems.

The set up was Tree > superlight webbing > soft shackle > Whoopie sling > superlight hammock and back out again.

Thanks for any thoughts and ideas

    Whoopie slings pulled through?

That was one thought but like I said, I've hung / slept in the hammock before, the only difference this time around was the webbing straps ? I'm just glad that I didn't have my UQ on

        Bendy trees ?!!

Or strap stretch ?!! Not convinced that the DD light straps are up to the job.....

Why suspect the straps though?, i know they were the only difference but you said they were in the same place as the night before
I'v been using a set of DD straps for ages and not had any bother, cant see them stretching tbh

Did you pull the trees over

Nope to bendy trees, and Iv'e been using the standard DD straps for a few years with no bother, just thought I would ask if anyone else had had issues, I'll have to try and reproduce the scenario and mark the whoopie slings and strap positions to see what gives.

Can't help I'm afraid I've only used the DD Superlight straps once and didn't have an issue, however, I do know that Diamond Dave of this parish had one snap on him but if I recall correctly that was an older design. How old are the straps you have? I know there was a Mk I and MkII version but don't know when they changed. (An email to DD might answer that?)

              Cheers

Dave's strap wasn't the only example, I recall some other instances being mentioned on facebook and elsewhere. It may be something else though of course to be fair.

                Cheers, Paul

How high was your bum before, how much did it sag?
It might not be just one thing
                  Has the hammock material stretched?
                  Did you milk your bury?
Did you do a test sit?
Was there slack in the suspension somewhere ie Whoopie sling not butted tight against gather?
Often a couple of small things unnoticed or forgotten combine to make matters worse.

Plate tectonics? Maybe you didn't go down? ☺

Is this somewhere you have slept before? Sounds to me as though your trees are too far apart. If you must use these same trees again, try raising the tree straps further up the tree, that should sort your problem.

Bum was............ bum height, about 800mm off the deck so the sag by morning with me in it was about that.
The hammock is fine, no stretch
                          Did I what ?
I laid in it after setting up for a couple of minutes
                          Not that was obvious
                          Plate what ?

No it was a new spot, the distance was probably 4 and a half meters or there abouts, nothing really ?

I'm going to set up in the garden at some point and test before my next trip, like I keep saying, all the kit has been used before except the straps, I'll fire off an email to DD today.

                          Thanks for the thoughts guys.

My straps just tore apart and I still don't know why. DD told me that these straps could support a tractor but neither me or others have faith in this claim

You can't prove it is the DD straps but I couldn't take the chance again and have replaced my straps.
