    Cams Nuts or Pits

Ok I'm looking out there for any experience in using climbing equipment for hammock hanging. As I hang out on the top of fell's and I don't have whoopie slings with a mile worth of adjustability. To stretch between trees. There don't seem many choices and I don't fancy the idea of stands just that this moment. In the dark ages (using a tent) I would hunker down in a crag for some shelter over night. And thinking about it I sure there is plenty of places I cud hang a hammock with some kind of anchor. I have been climbing once a week for years but indoors and my outdoors is limited but I have used most aids. I'm suspecting piton's are the best bet but as with climbing thay will have the same downfalls. Is there anyone out there who as any experience of using any anchor aids for hammockin.

Your right thinking about it I need two aids not one. But maybe I will use a different type of aid at each end so the apostrophes needed.

Anyway nice pictures Iv not seen prices for some time but hopefully tri-cams are still cheap for climbing gear. Il have to look in to that.

I've hung off tri cams (like in the link above) but I also use the old style nuts with the rope removed and slip my mule tape through that, works well and three sized nuts are about 50g and very cheap as you wouldn't want to fail on them anymore, tri cams are easier though.

But please please don't use pitons! Knocking holes in rock faces for the sake of a single night is very selfish and verboten in the UK. They won't hold as well as a cam anyway (it's all about angles)

I know what you meen Iv never used pegs just permanent ones do realy like the idea. Iv got a hand full of stopper sets so il give them a go and see if any of my friends have some tri-cams I can try and maybe acquire. Thinking tri-cams are the best way to go

Tricams, nuts or Torque nuts. Normal cams like to walk :-(

Tricams are probably the easiest to place, you should be able to nab some from rock-climbing buddies if you have them as we all tend to own them and no one ever seems to use them ☺

If you gave a set of stoppers you should be fine using those if you know how to create a belay anchor using 1 or more of the stoppers. For the larger sizes I'd go for hexes especially the Rockcentrics as they are lighter than cams. Tri-cams will work well also but are more difficult to seat properly than wedge shaped nuts like stoppers. Definitely no pitons.
A large sling or a piece of tape can be used to go around rocks.

Iv looked back at woodlands ill fated Jura trip think I see he's using stopper. Not so easy on my phone. I know the basics for belay anchor. Iv got 4 days of after tomorrow so il take a trek to lovely crag with a awesome view I know. that will give me a chance to try some different pitches. Iv got a tonne of webbing il take that out as well see what happens.

I bought a load of gear for Jura, got nuts and cams of varying sizes. You're welcome to borrow what you want to see what works for you. I found the nuts worked best where I was and didn't try the cams as like above someone had said they walk.
I've got a picture somewhere of all the gear I bought, I'll try and post it later and you can pick what you'd like to try.

Getting My Rocks Off (or, Hacking at My Nuts)
Went off earlier in the week recce'ing for hang spots on Dartmoor, in preparation for the Trek-Lite Spring Meet next weekend.
Focussed my mind on the need for alternative anchors.
Wasn't feeling the love for the weight of the stuff I could find (I reckon the rest of my stuff is on my Bro's rack)

Loosing the cord was easy on the bigger stuff, and they are no problem to thread onto a dogbone as and when,

So, then it was the turn of the wires,

Replaced with 2.5mm UHMWPE single braid line,

halved the weight. Makes the smaller nuts a bit harder to set, but I reckon I'll mange with the help of a tentpeg.

Nice Iv been given some loose hex nuts to go with my stoppers. was thinking myself of useing up the short lengths amsteel Iv got on them. Don't know if I cud bring myself to cut up my stoppers just yet. Ul have to give feedback on how thay work. I'm of to devoke water this week probably Thursday as I'm hoping a snugpak cocoon will be turning up on Wednesday so il just be tree hanging and trying it out.

Gadget: cool, that's what I did, I only ever take two or three without the wire or ropes as there's often ways to improvise.

Rather than cutting up the smaller nuts you can just actually use hex nuts (it's where the term comes from).
