Not smoking - treat myself? But to what?!

So, I've recently quit smoking. Again.

I'm thinking that about 10 weeks should tot up to about the price of one of these:

Well, not quite. But I've seen them cheaper on some site and I wouldn't be too far off the mark.

Now, I kinda feel like I should use this money to buy something I'd probably never buy meself but really quite fancy. Hence the tentsile. Plus with two little uns it'd house all four of us, or three plus me in me hammock underneath (handy when they get bigger and can't go twos up). Can the dog sleep in there too I wonder?

Alternatively I could go for a nice hammock and down underquilt and still have change left over. This is something I'd probably end up doing anyway though...the tentsile isn't.

Anyone got a tentsile?!tried one? The wife isn't keen to get in a hammock over night, and I think something like this would tick some boxes in terms of us all being able to camp, and keeping me happy to by keeping me off the ground!

Whatever I go for, I wanna get it in good time so I've a chance to faff with it a bit before my two trips in summer (1-cycle tour round Holland, though the tentsile would be too heavy for this. 2-camping/bouldering in Font with a group of kids I work with. Tentsile would be awesome here, the campsite is great and we take a mini bus there so can carry as much as I want).

    Any thoughts?

Or will it be too impractical (finding suitable trees and the likes)? It'd be fine for this France trip I'm doing, but beyond that I'm unsure? And would it be like lying on a trampoline? The kids would love it when they got older like...

A case of counting your chickens before they are hatched?? LOL

If I were you, I would try and read some reviews from folk who know what they are talking about and have experience of hammocks.
Best review I have found is by Derek Hansen over at The Ultimate Hang,

          Well done on your quitting.
Treat yourself (your justification reasoning Is sound) but as said above, research it first as you wouldn't want to get it wrong and make your self stressed ........☺

I'm wondering if a less cool, but more adaptable option might be a large (family) tent you can sling a couple of hammocks through.
Should see you right and keep the rugrats contained until they are big enough to be trusted in their own hammocks.

True. Hard to see the practical when you're being obscured by the cool though😜
I'll give it some thought. I figure the tentsile should be easy enough to sell on if I don't get on with it. The other option is some new guitar gear, of course, so nothing's set in stone yet!

Talking about it/ making the decision is part of the fun!

I think I'm the same as you.....as it is a 'treat' go for the cool/ bling!! :-)

                Cheers

I've got a tentsile Stingray. We did also have a forum discount code for them but I'd have to give them a call and see if it's still active. Anyway, for the second time tonight, where abouts are you? I might be able to help :-)

                    Exciting !

Hope you have allowed for the extra vat, duty and handling charges that HMRC will bill you for when it hits uk customs. Added about sixty quid to the cost of my hammock !

Aye. I had it delivered to a friend in California. She's since posted it to me...

Yep. Not sure how much it will have saved me in vat/duty, but if Paulm added an extra £60 to his hammock, I reckon it'd have been at least this, as I've bought hammock, tarp and some other bits and pieces. Although technically I've paid shipping twice...it'll still be cheaper.

I was sorely tempted by a Blackbird XLC meself, but the footbox was a dealbreaker. I'm an ambi-layer and I don't wanna be constrained to one lay direction.
