    Hello from Portugal/Slough

    Hi all,

My name's Martin and I've been in the UK for 1 month. I'm currently working/living in Slough, but I want to enjoy my time and travel as much as I can in the UK.
I have just a few hours experience with a hammock, so I'm pretty new to all this. Been reading a lot, but there's so much to choose.

I like cyclotouring and I only camp with a tent, but usually they are sleepless nights. So I've been always considering hammocking and since I'm starting on a new country why not try a different camping system?

    Cheers

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I hope you can get the info you need here. It does seem like a bamboozling array of gear when you're new to it. What kind of setup are you looking for? I'm guessing small and light being a cycle tourer

Meadows yep let's hope I find what I want.
I've been doing my research for sometime, but just recently discovered this forum.
I would really like a dutchware, but I don't want to pay the import customs and everything associated with it.

I also thought about going the DIY route, but I would need a sewing machine and get the fabric. So to start I'll just try to get one new. I also sent a pm to Scott, heard is hammock are pretty good Lets see what he says.

I usually tour on a touring bike, which is made to carry a lot of weight, so I think I can take a bit more than if I was backpacking

welcome hammockmartin, My Vango tent has not been used for a long time now. The hammock is a lot more comfortable.

Hello and welcome Martin. Great to have you on board. I found once I moved to hammocks my camping experience became a much more enjoyable one since I. Oils finally get some much needed rest - I don't get in well with sleeping in the ground! Plenty of knowledgeable members on here, so be sure to ask any questions you may have

Welcome to the forum mate. Best advice to you if you're starting out is try before you buy. I'm just up the road from you with quite a collection so if you ever fancy dropping by I can dig a few out for you.

Kieren does have a ridiculous number of hammocks - he could open museum!

Thank you all for the warm welcoming

Kieren Where do you usually go? I've read that Henley and some other place nearby are nice to backpacking and pass the weekend.

There are a few places round and about, not many where you're permitted to camp though. Henley is lovely but you might find somewhere a little quieter nearer Hurley just up the river. There is a lot of countryside west of Maidenhead. Worth having a good look on Google Earth or if I can ever find the time come along with me.

Yeah, have a look in the meets section. If you can't see one that suits you post your own.
Badgells Wood should be opening again soon if I'm not mistaken.
