I've now used my hammock from Scotty on three or four occasions and due to the number of flying critters this weekend I've now used the bug net under siege conditions....
I can't fault the hammock in any way, it is now my go-to hammock. Lightweight, packs down small, extremely comfortable, very well-constructed (can't find a single instance of dodgy stitching) and does exactly what it says on the tin. It is the longest hammock I have (11 or 11.5 ft) and now I have the ridgeline set according to my needs it is the most comfortable hammock I own as well.
I cannot recommend this hammock and Scotty’s workmanship highly enough, Scotty is easy to deal with communication is first rate and he took the time to find out what I needed rather than what I thought I wanted!
Onto the bug-net. This weekend was the first occasion I have really needed one and this was the first time I had used a ‘separate’ bug-net (my TW one is built into the Hornet). I chose to go with the side zippered version and it worked excellently. Despite the air being thick with critters (many of them sounding like they should be the size of Medium Bombers) not a single one made it through the defences. It was easy to attach to the tarp ridgeline thanks to the loops along the top and the zip ‘ran’ easily and doesn’t seem to get trapped in the mesh. The only mod I will make it to put some reflective/ fluorescent zip pulls on the zips to aid rapid exits for those ‘middle of the night nature calls’.
All in all, two excellent pieces of kit made by someone who makes the ordering and buying process a pleasure. Communication with Scotty was excellent and he took the time to recommend what he thought would work best for me (rather than let me purchase a ‘lemon’ based on what I thought I needed). Delivery time was short and for the quality of work very reasonably priced (IMO).
I have purchased another piece of kit from him already (more on that when I have tested it a few more times) and will probably be contacting him for a UQ shortly.
If you are looking to purchase any hammock gear and Scotty makes it, I would not hesitate to give him a go…….At every point in the process he offered a “ …if you don’t like it send it back and I can alter it, or give you a refund…” promise…well Scotty, nothing’s coming back from me!
I couldn’t take any pictures on this weekend’s outing (forgot the iphone) but if anyone wants pics of any specific kit / parts thereof let me know and I’ll take some next time I’m out.
Cheers
Steve
