    Snugpack Cocoon

Well I've used my birthday pressie Snugpak Cocoon on a field..well garden test last night so thought I'd do a quick review on what my initial experience was.
The weather was down to around 6 degrees, very clear skies almost all night, negligible wind speed and at dawn there was a heavy morning dew (other bits of town had very heavy fog but I was above it). I live on the edge of moorland at around 750ft above sea level. I did not have a tarp up since it was beautiful stargazing weather (and there's a meteor shower going on at the moment).
I had a brilliant night's sleep and was warm enough all night long. I had the cocoon zipped up with about a foot open around my head. Inside I was in a very cheap lightweight sleepingbag that I wouldn't even class as one season; you can really only use it in good summer's weather. I had on fleecy long sleeved pyjamas and a pair of every day socks. I could have stood being a bit warmer but I was comfy enough.
I did find I had a couple of body spots where I could feel coolness where my diagonal lie-points were. This might be because I have a double hammock, but I'm not sure. I don't have any other hammock to compare that issue with. It wasn't much of a problem though as I was still warm, I could just tell those bits were cooler. I also think it might be the fact I have a double hammock, but I didn't get quite as diagonal as I'd have liked to, but I was still comfy enough for an undisturbed night's sleep.
In the morning the outer skin was cool and damp, but that didnt affect how I felt. And when I zipped up fully at dawn, I didnt feel like I was steaming up the inside- it still felt like breathing fresh-air.
One thing I think would be good would be for the zip to run along a diagonal as you sleep- I ended up with the zip along the side so it lined up with my head position, which meant I had to make sure my shoulder remained well covered (I'm a side sleeper).
Best bit was a lovely wake up to birdsong rather than snoring or baby-crying. And this meteor shower is on for a few more weeks, so hopefully my husband will let me have some more nights outside. And I'm sure come colder weather & my thicker sleeping bag inside, this will be incredibly comfy.

Great review missgeorgieo Iv just got myself a snugpak cocoon and I agree with all u stated. Instead of doing a review myself just repeating you I'd like just to add my impressions of the cocoon if that's ok

1St of when I got the cocoon out of its packing I thought that's big. Bat Crazy big but to be fair it was not cinched down. its a good 1/2 meter long but not cinched and about 300mm packed down

The cocoon next to my 3x3 DD tarp which isn't the smallest ever.

I tried the cocoon on my DD frontline first but as suspected the permanent bug net was a problem. So I flipped the hammock over putting it out of the way. I have a rigdeline on the hammock and I tried the idea of putting the cocoon over it first like a bug net kind of way it just fit. But I'm suspecting if the hammock is moved and the tension was increased it would not work. So I placed it under the rigdeline not a fun thing to do disconnecting the rigdeline ever time you want to install the cocoon.

I abandoned the frontline after this point and moved on to my diy single layer gathered end hammock. For size it's just about the same as the frontline and has a rigdeline as well ow joy but there's no bishop bag at one end and a snake skin at the tuver so a lot easier to disconnect the line and install the cocoon. And when I packed the cocoon away I just left the hammock inside so now I think thay will just stay together from now on.

I spent the night out with the cocoon and it was a calm night at 5°c I didn't even put the tarp up but was well shelled from any wind. I'm not the tallest out there just average and I cud sleep on a diagonal quite happy my feet were a little tight but not to the point that I was crushing the cocoon and losing lofting. The cocoon was a little lose under the hammock I cud of probably remedied that by pulling the cocoon further up at each end but I just persevered. All in all i had a good night just with the cocoon no sleeping bag with some adjustments cud of maybe been better.

Now the problems I had were more with the cocoon in the morning. When I opened the cocoon up to sit up for some breakfast it hung a long way down under the hammock touching the ground. Maybe pulling the end up the suspension would help but constantly changing the length every time you change your use for the hammock is just a pain. U can zip the cocoon up but then u can't spread the hammock to sit back down.

I'm sure there is a way to deal with this problem so il persevere for now. but to be honest I don't have any problems with my under quilt sleeping or just sitting about so I'm wondering if it's worth it in the end the cocoon doesn't seem lightyears ahead to justify keeping it.

Thanks for the reviews guys. Great reads both. I pondered over one of these for quite some time, tried for ages to source one. Won't got any of my hammocks now but one day maybe. Good luck with them and keep the reviews coming 👍🏻
