For those looking for somewhere to camp

I was driving through a patch of countryside a couple of weeks ago and drove through a valley with woods either side. There was a farm shop by the road so I stopped assuming that the farm owned the woods. It turned out that they didn't but knew who did and said I should go and speak to him about taking my kids camping there.
After a bit of wondering around I found his house and him and as it turned out he was more than happy to let us stay. He also had toilet and shower facilities as he holds music events at a hall in his house and people camp when they attend them.
Now I've done a fair bit of stealth camping in my time but until recently it's never occurred that people may actually be approachable with regard to using their land and after such a pleasant experience I think in future I will probably just keep asking.
Anyway, I'm hopefully taking the kids up there tomorrow for the first time and hopefully going to be sleeping in the Tentsile Stingray with them for the first time assuming the trees are suitable.
All being well there will be some pics up here in a couple of days.

        Nice find mate.

Seems to be a bit more difficult getting landowners on side down here in the South West.

Think I was just very lucky to be honest. Phoned him today though and he was more than happy for me to take the kids up this week. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Good result. I think most people are approachable given the chance.

Indeed. We were up there from Wednesday till today (with the exception of work breaks) and he treated us like guests, even offered us food.
I'm going up there to fix a door on one of his outbuildings and chop a bit of fire wood for him to say thank you.
Thankfully also he said we are welcome anytime, which surprised me a little after my son was so noisy :-)

Come over to Norway and camp anywhere you please, as long as you stay more than 150 meters from the nearest house or inhabited cabin, move camp every two days to protect the under growth, clean up after yourselves and generally behave in a resemblance of civilized human beings....

I've heard that about Norway. Sounds like an amazing place to go for a few days camping. Could you tell us a bit more about it? Dos and don'ts. Wildlife, wild food etc? That would be a particularly good group meet.

                      Here you go :-)

Here are some dos and dont's
Do camp anywhere you like as long as you stay 150 meters from anyones house or cabin and the area you camp in is not cultivated. I.e planted for crops, including grazing land. But in the winter, providing the ground is frozen you may cam and roam freely there as well.

Do make yourself a camp fire between 15.th August and 15th april
Don't cut down trees or break off live branches from trees.

                      Do pick berries and mushrooms.
Do fish in lakes and rivers if you have a fishing licence. If you are under 16 the licence is free if the lake/river does not have salmon or sea-trout in it.
Do fish for free anywhere you like along the sea shore.

                      Do CLOSE THE GATES!!!

Do move your camp every two days unless you are in remote areas or in the mountains.
Pick up your trash. What you can carry in, you can most certainly carry out!!!

Freedom to roam applies. You can hike anywhere you please....(just stay away from live firing ranges, hehe)
Do use your head during hunting season.

In the north, be carefull where you pick cloud berries. The locals have big dogs and they are armed! (The feuds over who has the right to this particular berry stretches back millenia in the north, thread carefully!)

Do dress well, and listen to the locals advice!

When the avalanche danger level is set to 3 or more, stay off the hills, I have friends who have to go an dig out your dead, mangled body. NO you won't survive the avalanche...

                      And finally, have FUN!

                      Thats about it :-)

Hi there, looking for somewhere to camp in August, preferably in Kent. As fans of campfires and cooking copious amounts of meat, any recommendations would be welcome. We were going to head to Badgells Wood but it is full

                          Thanks!
